Websites and marketing for construction firms and trades
Zatheo helps construction firms, builders and trades turn more of their website visitors into quote requests. We are a small team based in Ashford, and we build and fix websites for service businesses across Kent and the UK. For most firms in this sector the problem is not being invisible. It is a website that does not do justice to the quality of the work, so good prospects leave without getting in touch.
Why good builders lose work online
People hiring a builder or contractor are nervous about getting it wrong. Before they call, most of them check the same things: whether you do their kind of job, whether you work in their area, what your past work looks like, whether other customers recommend you and whether you are properly insured and accredited.
Commercial buyers go further. A main contractor, developer or facilities manager will often look for health and safety credentials, prequalification such as CHAS or Constructionline, and evidence that you can handle a project of their size. If your website makes them dig for that information, or does not show it at all, they move on to the next name on the list.
Most of this checking happens on a phone, often between other jobs. A slow site, a long form or a gallery of tiny photos is enough to lose the enquiry.
Conversion tactics for construction websites
These are the changes we would usually start with on a construction or trade website. None of them needs a bigger marketing budget. They help the visitors you already get to say yes.
1. Say what you build and where in the first screen
The top of your homepage and each service page should answer three questions straight away: what you do, which areas you cover and how to get a quote. A clear headline and one obvious button usually beat a slider of stock images.
2. Show real projects, not stock photos
Buyers want to see your work. Project pages with real photos, the location, what the job involved and roughly how long it took are far more convincing than a generic gallery. Before and after photos work especially well for extensions, renovations and landscaping.
3. Put accreditations and insurance near the call to action
If you hold memberships or scheme registrations such as TrustMark, CHAS, Constructionline, Gas Safe, NICEIC or the Federation of Master Builders, show them close to the quote button, with a link to the register where people can check them. Only show the ones you hold.
4. Use quote forms that qualify the lead
A good quote form is short but useful. Ask for the type of project, the postcode, a rough timescale and, where it helps, a budget band. You get better information before the first call, and you can spot the jobs that are not a good fit.
5. Make it easy on a phone
Click-to-call buttons, short forms, fast pages and photos that load quickly all matter. Many enquiries for trades come from someone standing in the room that needs the work.
6. Use real reviews, and link to them
Reviews from real customers, ideally linked to your Google profile or another review platform, do more than any claim you make about yourself. We help you ask for reviews at the right moment, just after a job is finished.
7. Track calls and forms
You should know which pages, searches and campaigns bring in quote requests. We set up GA4 to record calls, forms and quote requests, so decisions are based on real enquiries rather than guesswork.
8. Reply fast
Many people ask two or three firms for a quote. The one who replies first, clearly and politely, often wins the job. Instant replies, missed-call texts and follow-up on quotes that have gone quiet make a real difference when you are on site all day.

Domestic and commercial work need different pages
A homeowner planning an extension and a developer looking for a groundworks contractor want very different things. If you do both, we usually give each audience its own pages: domestic pages that focus on reassurance, project photos and reviews, and commercial pages that focus on capability, credentials, sectors and the size of projects you take on.
Trade-facing work
We have built for businesses that sell to the trade as well as for local service firms. For Low-E, a UK foil insulation manufacturer, we designed a website that speaks to suppliers, tradespeople and DIY customers, with an SEO campaign aimed at the DIY market and application pages explaining how the products are installed and used.
Working across Kent
We are based in Ashford and work with construction firms and trades across the county, including Ashford, Maidstone, Canterbury and Folkestone and Hythe, as well as elsewhere in the UK. For a guide to budgets, see web design costs in Kent.
